Movie Review: Maleficent; Mistress of Evil

Forbes

This is my first movie review and as an Avid “movie-watcher”, I’d like to start doing something like this. As much as I like watching movies and series; I’ve never had to do a movie review before. Let me tell you what genre of movies you won’t see here. Horror/Scary movies. Not my style. Action, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Drama, Suspense… More me.

So, let’s get to it. Disney’s Maleficent; Mistress of Evil

Plot: Set after the events of Maleficent (that’s the first one), Aurora is now the queen of the moors and is controlling the Moorfolk and all that. Prince Philip asked her to marry him. She agreed and though Maleficent disagreed for like 2 seconds, she finally agreed for her daughter. Philip’s mother turned out to be the evil one in the movie. Creating weapons made out of iron (the only metal that can hurt Maleficent) and trying to take over the Moors by killing all the fairies and other Moorfolk. This plan was eventually thwarted by Maleficent and others like her who went into hiding after being hunted almost into extinction and killed. The wedding took place immediately after the battle and Aurora married Philip (his mother was turned into a goat so no objections there) and the moors and the kingdom were finally, united. At the last scene we were told that Aurora was pregnant and Maleficent would come visit on the child’s christening.

Pleasant surprises: It was quite refreshing to know that Maleficent was not the last one of her kind (I always wondered where she came from). Although she was the only one with powers, we saw that there were a lot more of her kind that were forced underground after being killed by humans. She was, also, the last of the phoenix line (their ancestor) which means she could come back to life after being killed. (We see what you did with the name there, Disney). Philip’s father, also, wasn’t dead. Which was quite surprising seeing as his wife wanted power crazily. It was also weird that there was a whole forge below the castle and the king and the prince didn’t hear the noise from the clanging metals and extreme heat the forge would have produced. Hmm!

Anyways, It was a good movie as I really wanted to know what happened next.
